here's a good article about the current state of the music industry.

maybe record companies, in retrospect, will realize that marketing almost exclusively to the tween demographic was a bad idea. maybe they'll realize that while they spent millions on promoting derivative crap like o-town (who are everywhere, but do you think anyone actually knows a song they sing?) people were walking around humming basement jaxx and daft punk, and buying radiohead and gorillaz cd's (music considered too "weird" for the masses). maybe this is just wishful thinking, like hoping portishead will actually release a new cd sometime within the next five years.
