what's the first thing you think when the alarm goes off in the morning. for as long as i can remember it's been "god, i wish i had a machine that could stop time." imagine the wonderful things you could do!
a) sleeeeep!!!!! for as long as you want!!!!
b) do whatever you want!!!! time is not an option!!!!! take that long lunch you deserve or take your time at the gym!
c) with time frozen, other people would be frozen in the space time continuum as well. you could take joe shmoe walking down the street, balance a frozen poodle on his head, and place two frozen cats by his feet. make sure you have a video camera ready when you start time again!

this is what grad school does to you.

so, it's leaked out in it's entirety and it's not hard to find. i heard it last night and it's an amazing track, but it's pretty abrasive so i doubt it'll be a big hit with today's creed and american idol kids. i suppose the most startling aspect of the track, which will probably be noted in every newspaper, magazine, and blog review to come, is that hearing a new song with kurt singing is like listening to a ghost. considering the song's not so uplifting lyrics, one can't help but feel that kurt knew that this would be his final hoorah.

hmmm.... could the drama really be over?

ever see something that was just soooo unnecessary that you felt guilty for wanting one? like, i don't know, this?
oh look, naomi klein's got a new book coming out.
ok, the golden girls simply rock, no ifs ands or buts about it, so i'll definitely tune into this on saturday. lifetime should just give up on the rest of their programming and just show the golden girls 24 hours a day. and they should also give me a million dollars.

you know, i think i could go the rest of my life without hearing a song from sublime ever again.
major major kudos go to kreblog and lnotes for losing mega weight. my biggest tip is is stick with your new healthier lifestyle even after you reach your goal weight. fat cells have a nasty habit of wanting to go back to their previous bulky state, and they like to do it in a sneaky manner that makes you go "how did i gain 15 lbs all of a sudden!"

treat yourself to some new skinny clothes this weekend with this.

remember that cheesy song from the late 80's by dino? it went "that's the way it has to be, cuz that's the way i like it... i like it". what was he talking about? and is this supposed to make you want to hang out with him?
check out the interview with ken knudtsen at slushfactory.com.
ok, so when it comes to tv my guilty pleasure is the amazing race, which i'm quite happy is returning next month. yeah yeah, it's a reality game show, but not like survivor or the rest of them. these people actually do stuff like run around taiwan looking for a certain boat or drive around looking for a clue in the african desert. there's very little cattiness about the other players because they're too busy doing what they have to do, and they don't vote people off; you lose that leg of the race and you're off. so it actually feels like a game show instead of watching a bunch of people whine and bad mouth everyone else. i like it!

well, i made it in to work today. i'm actually not too nervous right now, mostly because the city is just so vacant right now. it feels like sunday morning outside. no traffic jams, no horns, no screaming crazy people. just this silent, persistent wind.

so, my first class actually turned out to be quite enjoyable. my first lecture in managing organizations involved studying what went wrong in the team dynamic of an airline crew minutes before their plane crashed (cough, bad captain, cough). it was a bit morbid, but also unbelievably fascinating, kind of like sorority life on mtv.

so, i went to study at the library for the first time since undergrad yesterday. libraries have this distinct smell that you forget until you walk into one. the rush of paper and hundred year old dust is unmistakable. now i just need to find someone to pass notes with.
i really hope that some day i have the opportunity to be interviewed by triumph the insult comic dog. he makes me happy, and i'm sure he likes grilled cheese sandwiches.

as much as i miss napster/audio galaxy, i've noticed a couple interesting things have happened since the demise of file sharing:
a) more "respectable"/album oriented/alternative bands (weezer, white stripes, strokes, queens of the stone age, etc) have suddenly become popular again. were the record companies holding these guys back until the file sharing craze ended?
b) i've, ahem, found myself buying cd's more often. i picked up the new queens of the stone age and most of the album is pretty darn good. there's a bunch of tracks that require instant skipping, though. maybe in the future cd players will be able to remember those tracks we always skip on cd's so we don't have to constantly do it ourselves? yes, i'm too lazy to program the cd player, thank you.
so, it looks like we might get "patriot day", the latest offering from the bush administration that sounds too much like a movie (a la operation enduring freedom). but, if we get a day off from work, i'll be happy. i really don't want to go to work next wednesday, and if i do go, i'll be biting my nails all day.
well, this is it. tonight i have my first class. i'm a bit scared. my attention span has decreased drastically since college, and i find it hard to sit through a one hour meeting, let alone a three hour lecture. i'm also used to going to the bathroom whenever i want, not when the professor decides it's time to go on break. oh well, wish me luck!

by the way, when do you have dinner when you have class from 6 to 9?
